The Client  MTX, privately owned construction and engineering company delivering innovative and sustainable solutions to the public & private sectors, contracted by the NHS Trust to deliver a New Congenital Heart Unit.

THE CHALLENGE

To design a modular building shell to meet the low response factors required of the specialist equipment used in healthcare facilities installed on a steel gantry all then to installed over a bank holiday weekend on a busy road in the middle of Leicester.

THE OUTCOME

Initial site visit took place to evaluate the site conditions, traffic and the existing hospital to enable planning to begin for road closures, specialist cranage and install teams. All of these elements required planning at least 3 months in advance which added a further challenge to the mix.

Modules sizes maximized and rationalized to minimize the number of modules to be installed to ensure that the delivery & installation could be completed over the bank holiday weekend.
Multi agency design co-ordination with client, NHS Trust, gantry manufacturers, mechanical & electrical engineers and structural engineers to ensure all elements co-ordinated effectively.

Modules designed with concrete floors & additional steel support work to meet the low response factors required for the specialist equipment.

Modules manufactured over a 4 week period and successfully installed over the bank holiday weekend.
